I love this litter box! Dec 31, 2006
By A. Milne Life in my 1B/1B apartment is much better since we got this litter box. Previously, I had an uncovered, rectangular, jumbo-sized box. (It was jumbo-sized to keep my two cats from "tossing" litter out as they were digging and from spraying the wall since they like to get as close to the back of the box as possible.) I hated looking at the litter all the time and stepping on scattered litter when I got out of the shower. I was worried that a covered box would be too small, but after reading the reviews, decided to give this a try.
Wow, am I glad I did! This box does it all... between the steps (which catch most) and a litter mat underneath to catch any extra, I barely have any scattered litter on my bathroom floor now. The box also helps contain the smell much better and it's wonderful that I (and my guests!) don't have to see what's inside! As an added bonus, it helps muffle the sound of the cats digging/scratching at night which used to wake me up. And the pearl color helps the box blend in between the tub and the toilet.
I highly recommend the Booda Clean Step for anyone who doesn't have a good way to hide the litter box!

Fantastic! Aug 27, 2006
By G. Secrist This litterbox is fantastic! We have a 20 pound cat who is so tall he can grab stuff from 4" in off of our kitchen counter. Normal covered boxes barely fit his head, much less his entire body. He can get into this box no problem. On top of that, the steps catch a ton of litter which would otherwise wind up on our floor! I highly recommend this box.

Keep your house smelling fresh! Apr 07, 2006
By H. Horn I really like this product. I use it in combination with the Litter Locker to keep my bathroom smelling good, and to keep litter off of the floor. The amount of litter tracked through my house went from 60 to zero. There is a little bit of effort in that whenever I clean out the bin, I vacuum the ramp, but it is much easier than vacuuming the whole house. I have heard that a few of the more timid cats are afraid of going in, and I have also heard of cats urinating on the ramp. I think that maybe their owners are not vacuuming the ramp, thus the cat thinks that the accumulated cat litter is part of the rest to go in, because I have not had that problem. Also, purchase replacement filter cartridges, because they make a huge difference in odor control.
Update (7/11): This product still works great, and looks practically brand new. I thought that I'd add that all of the cats that used this litter box were female, and I never had more than two cats using it at a time. I also found that it worked best with good clumping litter (I used Tidy Cats Multiple).

This might not be perfect, but it works better than most. Nov 13, 2007
By en-em-ee This litter box is not a miracle by any means but I like it better than any other one I've tried. I have three cats, ranging in size from 9 to 15 lbs and they all use this box without any problems. I've noticed that some of the major complaints about this product are: 1) cats not using the stair to ascend/descend, 2) the lid coming off, 3) difficulty cleaning and 4) size. My personal experience with the product has not been so negative.
1) My cats utilize the steps and, as a result, I have witnessed a great reduction in litter scatter. This is something that varies from animal to animal so I guess I lucked out. (I used to have litter-catching mats in front of the litter boxes and the cats would jump right over those; I think they were trying to avoid the abrasive surface. As soon as I replaced the mats with carpet scraps, the cats stopped flinging themselves out. Maybe some cats jump out of the Booda because the stairs are textured with small bumps that potentially cause pain? If so, you can try to shave them off with a utility blade or sand them down, though I'm not positive how effective such a strategy would be.)
2) Instead of relying on plastic hinges (that usually break very quickly), the bottom of the lid is fashioned into a deep groove that fits over the sides of the box. After I replace the lid, I always feel around the perimeter of the box to make sure I have a snug fit. This has been enough to hold the litter box together in my household.
3) I also do not have very many problems cleaning this litter box. I simply tilt the scoop sideways and use its front edge to scrape around the perimeter and move the clumps to the center before I scoop them out.
4) As for size...the litter box is indeed big and isn't an efficient way to use space, but I have it positioned in the corner of the living room that is dedicated solely to the cats and it definitely doesn't feel bulky there. Plus, it's more attractive than any other box I've seen and that's good because I don't have anywhere to hide it.
Overall, this litter box works well for me so it's getting 5 stars.

Doesn't solve tracking & creates additional kinds of messes Mar 11, 2009
By Katherine Mansfield I have 2 kinds of cats: a litter flinger and a bolt-n-shake. One digs & flings as far and wide as possible in the process--and occasionally will hang his rump over the wall onto the stairs for good measure, depositing tootsie rolls onto the already-litter encrusted steps for later clean-up. The other cat will do her business and, when done, will leap as far and as fast out of the entire contraption as possible, shaking all four paws in all directions until all litter has been sprayed into all possible corners of every room. So, this litter box is absolutely useless in preventing tracked litter, and also has the added plus of creating more messes for me to clean up on top of tracked litter.
The entire litter box is also extremely unwieldy when it comes time to empty & clean, and a hand vacuum is necessary to clean the stairs first, or else litter will fall on the floor as you dump the contents (awkwardly) into the trash bag.
My Siamese girl also ripped the charcoal filter out of its holder with her teeth and took off with it. No point in even replacing those, once she discovered THAT little toy...
