| | Description | The CatGenie Washable Granules will never need replacement but you will need to add additional granules when the level of the granules fall below the line on the bowl. On average you will need to add a few cups a month and a box of granules should last between 4-6 months depending on the number of cats that use the CatGenie. The plastic in the CatGenie Washable Granules has been specially formulated to completely biodegrade in your sewer or septic system in about 9 months or less. | |

No more litter! Ever! Mar 23, 2007
By TheCandlePrincess I love the CatGenie. The washable, plastic granules are one of the best things about the CatGenie. You'll never have to buy litter again! It doesn't make any dust! Zero! The granules are big enough to pick up off the floor. They're big enough to sit on top of a carpet or rug, and not get ground in. They look kind of like someone took a big piece of plastic spaghetti and chopped it up - it's kind of oval-shaped, so it won't roll around on the floor, and the sides are flat. They are much easier to clean up off any type of floor than regular cat litter. It's wonderful!

I love my catgenie! Oct 19, 2007

At first, the cats didn't know quite what to make of it. So, you have to be patient. Set up your catgenie in the bathroom or the laundry room, but keep their litterbox nearby. I let the old litterbox get a little "dirty" and my cat who is extremely tidy began using the catgenie. The old litterbox has gone away with the garbage truck. Now, the cats seem to enjoy watching the catgenie go through its cleaning cycle. Definitely worth the money as it has saved me time and my sanity.

granules May 30, 2008
By Darren Edgar I run our genie twice a day and get about a month out of one of these boxes. The product works great, and if it gets tracked out of the genie, its easy to clean up. The worst thing about these has to be the packaging. Every box I have received has been leaking granules as the ups guy drops it off. There is probably one quarter of each package gone by the time it gets to my door. A plastic liner like cereal boxes would go a long way. The only reason for four stars is the poor packaging.

No dust, less tracking Feb 22, 2011

You can't really thoroughly consider the CatGenie granules in isolation from the CatGenie or vice versa, but I'll give it a shot vs. clay-based standard litter in a regular litter box.
These granules are about millet size, plastic, and they don't clump and they don't break, grind or decompose into fine clay. As such, they're easier to clean up after getting kicked out. Also, I don't feel quite as yucky to find them around the house as I did for the clay, since I know they've been washed several times today and they haven't absorbed anything.
I have two cats, and neither of them had a problem adjusting to the change in texture from standard litter. As a plus, it doesn't stick between pads as much either.
You definitely want a box on hand at all times for the CatGenie, since too few in the pan will potentially put off the cat and also possibly result in a basin-filling error on the cat genie -- they displace a certain amount of the wash water, and the Genie will think it's taking too long to fill if they aren't there taking up room.
A certain amount will be consumed during each wash -- some will stick to "solids" and a few others will cling to the scooper despite the shaking action it uses.
A good product to consider for subscription shipment to prevent an emergency next-day-air situation.

Packaging leaks May 07, 2008
By B. A. Benson I ordered 4 boxes of litter and they all shipped in one larger box. Each of the 4 boxes leaked some of the litter during shipping. I think the litter packaging needs to be improved, especially considering the high cost of the litter. Adding an inner bag sealed with a twist-tie would resolve the issue.
