4Fun for me, too.  Aug 28, 2010
My great friend sent the platypus Egg Babies toy to my crazy Border Collie mix/mutt, Jack. I only had to show him how the eggs were hidden inside the platypus a couple of times and he went to town. He has so much fun getting the eggs out but then his big challenge is which to play with, the eggs or the platypus! Decisions! Decisions! He absolutely loves this toy and I loved the idea one of the other reviewers posted of stuffing some of his other toys in there as well. I do agree that not all dogs will "get" the concept of removing the eggs from the toy, my previous dog would not have had any use for that game, but he would have still loved carrying the platypus around when he was nervous. :)

3hard for my pup to get the eggs out.  Aug 26, 2010
I think this is a great toy with a great concept. My dog, however had a hard time getting the eggs out. I think the hole is just too small. It might be easier for big dogs to use, I have a Yorkie. He does love the platy. He rough houses with it as if it were another pup, so that's a big plus. If you have a small dog, the squirrels in a tree is good, in combination with the eggs from this toy. I wish my dog was good enough to get the eggs out, cause this is a great toy.

3Hole too small or eggs too large?  Aug 23, 2010
I love the concept, but my little 5lb pup can't get the eggs out - hole should be bigger. Plus, I think the hole for the eggs shouldv'e been moved up into the stomach area as all comments from friends say the same thing "why did they put the hole where the vagina is located?" It's a little too literal... On the other hand, my neighbor's Pug loves the eggs because they squeak and he tries really hard to get the eggs out, which I think is the point. Also, the Eagle won't stand upright - the beak is too top heavy.

3First arrived damaged  Aug 16, 2010
The first platypus arrived damaged (the paw was split at the sides), so I returned it. My foster dog wasn't interested in playing with it at all, but my children loved it. I'm going to be sending this to a friend to use for her dogs as I'm not longer fostering dogs, hopefully they'll get some use out of it. The price was right when I bought it though, so I'm not too upset about it.

5Your dog too can be a platypus obstetrician!  Aug 01, 2010
When the platypus arrived, none of us fully understood it. I didn't get why a dog would enjoy removing squeaky toys from a stuffed cavity. This was her first plush toy and I imagined her shredding the platypus and possibly eating the eggs. For about a month, my dog didn't remove any eggs, but she loved the platypus and gently carried it around, squeaking its belly. Then, after about a three-week incubation period, the platypus patient received a slight C-section and my dog extracted the eggs.

She still loves her platypus. She loves digging the eggs out and carying them proudly around the house. This dog is not a strong chewer and the platypus and her offspring have held up pretty well over the months, with mild wear, like the aforementioned C-section and some tears to the eggs. The eggs are also fun to put in other toys like her hollow rubber lattice ball. Dogs just like pulling stuff out of stuff, apparently. We recently got the Hide-a-Squirrel and she loves that, too.

Great toy!
